On the shores of Lake Huron, Cheboygan is the eastern end of the Inland Waterway.
Opportunities abound for boaters and fishermen alike. Mackinac Island and Bois Blanc Island
are exciting destinations on Lake Huron. Both are easy day trips from Cheboygan. The
Cheboygan River offers excellent fishing as well as passage into Mullett Lake. The waterway
continues through the Indian River, Burt Lake, the Crooked River, and Crooked Lake.
There are several campgrounds in the Cheboygan area, including two State Parks. Cheboygan
State Park is on Lake Huron east of the city. Aloha State Park is to the south on the north
shore of Mullett Lake.
The Cheboygan Golf and Country Club offers a challenging 18 hole course and is open to the
public. The facilities include a driving range, practice greens, lounge and snnack bar, pro
shop, and cart and club rental. There is also a PGA pro if you need help with your game.
There are miles of snowmobile trails in the area for winter fun and the Black Mountain
recreation area is just a short drive away. Hunters are welcomed in Cheboygan and the
surrounding area is home to lots of game. Other outdoor attractions include two city parks.
Washington Park is downtown on the banks of the Cheboygan River. Gordon Turner Park has
something for the whole family. It boasts a large public beach on Lake Huron, a picnic area,
and playground as well as breathtaking views of the Straits of Mackinac.
For indoor activities Cheboygan has many fine shops and restaurants. The Opera House is a
must. This beautifully restored Victorian theater hosts a variety of productions from world
famous performers to local community theater groups.
